RS Spyders Qualify 3rd, 4th, 7th and 9th at Road America; Penske says “we just want to win LMP2″

Qualifying at Road America is complete and Porsche RS Spyders have qualified 3rd, 4th, 7th and 9th. The two Penske entries qualified behind the 1st and 2nd place Audi R10 TDI LMP1 cars, which have been beaten five times this season by the LMP2 RS Spyders. The two Dyson entries qualified 7th and 9th.
Meanwhile, Romain Dumas of Penske Porsche said that despite claiming some overall victories this year with the “lesser” LMP2 cars, the team is still only focused on winning the LMP2 title.
“We will do like we have all season: compete for the class win and we will see about the overall race,” he said. “We have to expect competition from the Acuras because they are very close. You can see in GT2 that there has been great competition in GT2 with Ferrari, Porsche and Panoz. It is the same now in P2.”
This weekend’s race at Road America should prove a tougher challenge for the RS Spyders versus the Audi R10s, as this track is more suited to the strengths of the Audis.
Meanwhile, in GT2, the Flying Lizard 911 GT3 RSR driven by van Overbeek and Bergmeister qualified fourth in class behind the Ferrari 430 GTs and 20th overall to lead the Porsche GT2 entries.
