Audi Edges Porsche for Petit Le Mans Overall Win; Flying Lizard Takes GT2 Win
October 8, 2007

After 1,000 miles and 394 laps, Penske RS Spyder driven by Romain Dumas, Timo Bernhard, and Patrick Long finished the Petit Le Mans 0.923 seconds behind the Audi R10 of Dindo Capello and Allan McNish in the closest finish in Petit Le Mans history.
The RS Spyder had a 30 second lead with 40 minutes left when a caution period bunched up the field. The R10 was five seconds and four cars behind when the green flag dropped, and eight minutes later, the Capello powered past Domas. The Audi win ended the overall victory streak that the RS Spyder had been on since March.
Third place overall went to the Dyson Racing RS Spyder driven by Chris Dyson and Guy Smith, who were eight laps behind the winners. This was the highest finish of the season for the Dyson team.
The GT2 championship will come down to the last race after the Flying Lizard Porsche 911 GT3 RSR of Jörg Bergmeister, Johannes van Overbeek and Marc Lieb drove to a three-lap victory while the Risi Competizione Ferrari F430 of Jaime Melo and Mika Salo finished sixth in class. Second place went to the Tafel Racing Porsche driven by Dominik Farnbacher and Wolf Henzler while third went to the Rahal Letterman Porsche driven by Ralf Kelleners, Tom Milner and Graham Rahal.
The final race of the 2007 ALMS season will be the Monterey Sports Car Championships at Laguna Seca on Saturday, October 20th.
