Porsche Delays Cayenne Hybrid
December 19, 2007

After showing the well-received Cayenne Hybrid at the LA Auto Show, and touting the performance and mileage figures of the prototype, Porsche is having second thoughts.
They feel that the hybrid market share is not large enough for them to introduce the Cayenne Hybrid anytime soon, saying “(t)he most optimistic forecast still only calls for a market share of 5 percent.” Some have also said that hybrids still don’t offer enough economy and performance improvements to justify their cost.
While Audi and VW still plan to bring out hybrid versions of their SUVs as soon as possible (Audi wants their by the end of 2008) Porsche is now saying that it will be at last 2010 before the Cayenne Hybrid is introduced. This also means a Panamera hybrid may not happen until 2011 or even 2013, if at all.
