Porsche Dominates Sebring
March 30, 2008

Porsche kicked off the 2008 ALMS season with a dominating performance, both in LMP2 and GT2.
The Penske #7 RS Spyder driven by Romain Dumas, Timo Bernhard and Manu Collard finished first overall to give Porsche its 18th overall win, more than any other manufacturer. Finishing in second overall was the Dyson RS Spyder driven by Butch Leitzinger, Marino Franchitti and Andy Lally. The second Dyson Racing Spyder of Chris Dyson and Guy Smith finished fourth overall and third in LMP2, securing an all-Porsche podium in LMP2. Third overall went to the LMP1-winning Audi R10 driven by Capello, McNish and Kristensen.
The Penske #6 RS Spyder driving by Patrick Long, Sascha Maassen and Ryan Briscoe was running in the top three early in the event, but was forced out of the race by a broken water pump. This was the first time a mechanical failure has put an RS Spyder out of a race.
In GT2, the Flying Lizard Motorsports #45 911 GT3 RSR driven by Joerg Bergmeister, Marc Lieb and Wolf Henzler took the class win after a crash between the then first- and second-place Risi Competizione Ferrari F430 GT and Farnbacher Loles 911 GT3 RSR. Finishing second was the Flying Lizard Motorsports Porsche driven by Seth Neiman, Darren Law and Alex Davison. The Risi Competizione Ferrari F430 GT driven by Nic Jonsson, Eric van de Poele and Tracy Krohn finished third in class.
This year is shaping up to be a great battle in LMP2 between the RS Spyders and Acura’s much-improved car, and GT2 will be just as competitive between the new 911 GT3 RSR and the Ferrari F430 GT. This is one race series to watch!
