Porsche and Audi Fight Over Two Letters
April 27, 2008

The letters “RS” have been used a lot in Porsche’s history. There is the RS Spyder, the 911 Carrera RS, the 997 GT3 RS, the Boxster RS 60 Spyder, and more. Porsche uses it on their highest performing models.
Audi also uses the “RS” designation on their highest performing models, like RS4, RS6, and RS8.
But when Audi started talking about their upcoming TT RS, Porsche stepped in and put the smack down. Porsche felt that using the RS as a suffix was stepping over the line. With Porsche’s increasing influence at VW, Porsche has gotten their way.
Audi may continue to us “RS” as a prefix, but only Porsche can use it as a suffix.
