Rumor: Porsche Considering Audi TTS Engine for Boxster
June 17, 2009

Those earlier rumors about the Boxster getting a 4-cylinder engine are heating up. Auto Motor & Sport is reporting that Porsche is looking at shoving the Audi TTS engine into a cheaper Boxster.
The engine is a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder that makes 272 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. That’s actually 17 hp and 45 lb-ft more than the current Boxster flat-6 makes.
By using this engine, they say the price of the Boxster could drop by as much as $9,000. But my only question: could you still call it a Boxster without a boxer engine?
