Some folks in Wisconsin got a call from the Sheriff awhile back. It seems a landowner found a car in their pond and wanted it out of there. The Sheriff told the folks if they helped get it out, and there was no foul play involved and it wasn’t reported stolen, they could have it.

So, they headed over to take a look. The divers were testing out a new video system, and it showed a red Porsche 356. A short time later, the divers hooked up some cables to the car and they started pulling it out.

Unfortunately, the car was so far gone that by the time they got it to shore, it started breaking apart. From the pictures, it doesn’t look like much is salvageable… maybe the rear glass, but that’s about it.

A sad end for such a magnificent machine. Check out more pics after the jump.

Wow, check this out. French company PGO Auto will unveil this natural gas powered 356 replica at the Geneva Auto Show in March.

Called the Cévennes Turbo-CNG roadster, this car has a 1.6 liter turbocharged I4 that runs on compressed natural gas. It has a compression ratio of 11:1 and produces 150 hp and 155 lb-ft of torque. That pushes the car from 0 to 60 in 6.5 seconds and to a top speed of 130 mph.

The car can run about 280 miles on a full 132 liter tank of CNG, which averages to about 35 miles per gallon, and it spits out a little more than 118 grams of CO2 per kilometer.

It isn’t destined for production yet, but if enough interest is shown in Geneva, they will build it. It will only be available in Europe and cost about $70,000.

Over at Jalopnik, a reader by the name of “Junkman” sent them pictures and info about his outrageous Chevy 400-powered ’57 Porsche 356. The fender flares are pretty hideous, but the craftsmanship that went into this conversion looks to be top-notch. Junkman says “It’s all steel, crazy fast, surprisingly good handling and totally offensive to all Porsche purists.”
Let’s hope this began life as a 356 replica and isn’t based on a real 356.
