The latest version of my favorite Porsche is here: the 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
For 2010 the 911 GT3 RS is more powerful, lighter, and faster. The old 3.6 liter engine is now up to 3.8 liters, with a 15 hp boost to 450. The six-speed manual is geared lower than the standard GT3 for better acceleration. A new lithium-ion battery is used for even less weight.
The suspension has been updated with a wider front and rear track and a specially setup PASM. Nineteen inch wheels, a new rear wing, and new exterior graphics complete the package.
The 2010 911 GT3 RS will be available in spring of 2010 starting at $132,800.

August 14 – 16 marked the 36th Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races, and for 2009 Porsche was the featured marque.
As part of the festivities, tons of historic Porsche racecars were present. In fact, over one-third of the 450-car field were Porsches. Looking at the photo above, you can see 917s, 962s, 906s, 911s and more.
To see more pictures, check out this gallery on the Monterey website.

Well, it seems it is finally over. After all of the drama, Volkswagen and Porsche have inked a deal that will see VW buying 42 percent of Porsche AG. VW will also purchase Porsche Holding Salzburg.
VW will pay €3.3 billion for the Porsche AG stake and €3.55 billion for the holding company. By the end of 2011, VW and Porsche will merge into a single company.
Supposedly, Porsche will continue to operate (for now at least) as an independent company. Also, rumors are flying around that the legendary Auto Union name will be resurrected for the VW/Porsche parent group.
Full press release from VW after the jump.

With Porsche pulling the RS Spyder out of ALMS, Acura looked to dominate the ALMS LMP2 class. But at Mid-Ohio earlier this month, Team Cytosport brought the RS Spyder back to ALMS, and they did so in grand style.
Cytosport entered the ex-Dyson Racing RS Spyder with drivers Greg Pickett and Klaus Graf. After an early penalty they battled back to finish second in LMP2 and fourth overall. The next race, at Road America, the RS Spyder finished third.
In GT2, the big news at Mid-Ohio was the debut of the GT2-class Corvette C6.R. The Vette moves to GT2 to race against Porsche, Ferrari, BMW, Panoz and Ford. The Corvette finished a respectable 2nd behind the winning Porsche 997 driven by Jörg Bergmeister and Patrick Long, just ahead of a BMW E92 M3. At Road American, Porsche didn’t fair too well, as the Bergmeister/Long entry finished fourth behind two BMWs and a Corvette.
The next ALMS round is this weekend at Mosport.

Porsche has unleashed the new facelifted 2010 911 Turbo on the world. But there is more lurking under the skin.
The new 911 Turbo features a new 3.8 liter direct fuel injected six replacing the previous 3.6 liter unit. Power is now up to 500 hp, and fuel mileage increases a couple mpg also. This pushes the car from 0 to 62 in 3.4 seconds, and on to a top speed of 194 mph. Of course, the PDK is also available in the new boosted 911 if you prefer it to the standard six-speed manual. But, hey, here’s a change: those horrible steering-wheel mounted PDK shifters are replaced by real, F1-style paddles…but for some reason, the buttons are still an option if you prefer.
The Porsche Traction Management and Porsche Stability Management systems have also been tweaked to enhance the driving pleasure.

Anyone who has ever ordered a new Porsche has encountered the seemingly infinite options list. But the new Panamera may take that to a new level.
Porsche showed off some of the new Panamera customization options, and while some of them are typical for Porsche (bike racks, custom luggage, wood trim) some are unexpected, like the cooler/fridge between the rear seats.
Some options Porsche showed included the Yachting Mahogany wood trim panels; body-colored interior elements; Porsche crest seats; a rear entertainment system with individual CD/DVD players, infrared cordless headsets, AV inputs and game console and iPod interfaces; body color exterior air intake and outlet grids; custom lower rear panel and diffuser; luggage racks; roof transport system; bicycle rack; and custom fitted luggage.
Check out your Porsche dealer for the complete option list, and check out a few more pics after the jump.

According to Motor Authority, Gemballa has introduced yet another version of their Mirage GT, this one called the Gold Edition.
Based on the Carrera GT, the Gold Edition adds about 60 hp to the stock Carrera GT mill to bring it up to 670 hp. The car will do 0 to 62 in 3.7 seconds and 0 to 124 mph in 9.7 seconds, along the way to a top speed of 208 mph.
But main “feature” of the Gold Edition Mirage GT is… well… the gold styling. In addition to lots of carbon fiber, it features a gold-on-white color scheme and custom gold alloy wheels. The interior includes more gold accents.
To me, it is just plain ugly and garish. But I’m sure there is a sheik somewhere just waiting for this gold-trimmed beast.

Back in June, we first told you about Switzer’s 800 hp 997 twin-turbo. Now, they have released more pictures and details, and the beast officially has a name: the P800 997.
The 800 hp will push you from 0 to 60 in less than three seconds. It will rocket you through the quarter-mile in just over ten seconds. No word on top speed, but I think it would be safe to assume it is well past the double-century mark.
The P800 997 features custom GT30 turbochargers, custom Switzer MONSTER intercoolers, electronic boost control, headers and custom exhaust, and a carbon clutch pack. No word on price, but if you have to ask….
Check out more pics, a dyno test video, and the full press release after the jump.

In the last weeks Wiedeking and Härter have come to the conclusion, that the further strategic development of Porsche SE and Porsche AG is better off, if they are not on board as acting persons.
And with that, and after a reported all-night meeting, Porsche CEO Wendelin Wiedeking and CFO Holger Härter are no longer with Porsche. Now, production chief Michael Macht will lead the company as CEO. Macht has been with Porsche almost 20 years, and was directly involved in the development of the Cayenne and Panamera.
But don’t feel bad for Wiedeking — he will be receiving a severance package of about $71 million. In a pretty cool move, he has already pledged about half of that money to charity.
Press releases from Porsche after the jump.
